Dental Bonding

Dental bonding involves placing a composite resin filling in the front and the back teeth. Composite resin material is produced to treat decayed teeth, enhancing your overall smile. Dental bonding is also used to change the color, size and/or shape of your teeth. It can also be used to close gaps and align crooked teeth.

By applying a thin layer of a plastic material on the surface of your teeth, you can conceal your dental flaws, improving your smile.

About the Procedure

Dental bonding procedures are actually pretty simple. First, your dentist will apply a gentle etching solution to your teeth in order to create small grooves in your enamel structure. The new texture allows the composite resin to bond material successfully to your teeth.

The composite resin is then applied to your teeth while your dentist uses a curing light. Your dentist hardens each layer with the high-intensity curing light. When he or she applies the final coat of composite resin, the bonded material is then restored to its desired shape.

Composite resin is available in various shades, allowing you to choose one that matches your natural teeth, giving you an attractive finish.

Dental bonding procedures usually require one to two hours to complete.

Types of Dental Bonding

There are two types of dental bonding. One type focuses on small corrections. One appointment with your dentist is needed for smaller corrections which simply involves bonding the composite resin material to your tooth structure.

The other type of dental bonding concentrates on larger corrections. This type of procedure requires two dental visits. In one of the visits, you will have to get impressions taken of your teeth. These impressions are then taken to the dental lab where a technician designs a customized filling made of porcelain.

After your filling has been produced, your dentist will bond the material to your teeth.

The Cost of Dental Bonding

Like all other dental procedures, the cost of dental bonding depends on who your dentist is, where your dentist is located and the severity of your case. Your dental insurance plan also comes into play when determining the cost of the treatment.

Typically, dental bonding costs range from $300 to $600 per tooth.
