Whoopi Goldberg joins The View

Over its ten year history, The View has gone from the odd format of being a talk show with four female hosts gabbing about a number of different topics to being one of the most influential and widely watched daytime talk shows in American history. Known for its jovial discussions on a number of topics and for a few controversial moments, The View has become one of the most desired jobs in show biz. Last year, the view on abc had its biggest year. Ratings skyrocketed and people couldn’t help but talk about the number of noteworthy events that took place on abc the view. One of the biggest reasons why the view tv show became must see tv last year was due to the presence of comedian and former daytime TV talk show host, Rosie O’Donnell.

 

Formerly known as the Queen of Nice, Rosie O’Donnell quickly shed that label in her one season on the view on abc. Whether it was engaging in a petty and overly public feud with real estate mogul and father of Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump or carelessly making racially insensitive comments about Chinese people, Rosie O’Donnell was definitely a magnetic figure for The View. However, all of these petty feuds and the controversies stemming from her liberal views towards Christianity and on the war in Iraq seemed to take a toll on Rosie O’Donnell and the other co-hosts of The View. Noticing that the show was quickly becoming rosie the view, there was a palpable tension on-set that ominously began with Rosie O’Donnell’s barbed attacks against former the view co-host Star Jones-Reynolds. Eventually, an angry argument with fellow the view on abc co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck spelled the end of Rosie’s reign on The View. With the public already aware that Rosie O’Donnell hadn’t renewed her contract, the argument with Hasselbeck would compel rosie o’donnell to leave the view earlier than expected. Ironically, the episode that featured the argument that went on for longer than five minutes was the highest rated episode in The View history.

 

When the producers of the view on abc realized that they had to replace rosie o’donnell with a new person, they were in an interesting dilemma. While they understood that subtracting rosie from the show would only reduce on-screen tension and improve chemistry among the four co-hosts, they also wanted somebody that would be able to draw in viewers with the potential of saying controversial things. An extensive search was conducted with names like Rosanne Barr, Kathy Griffin, and even Courtney Love being thrown out there. However, on August 1, the view on abc announced that Whoopi Goldberg was chosen as the new co-host of the hit show. While being a bit off the radar the last few years, whoopi goldberg is an Academy Award winning actress and an acclaimed comedian. She also isn’t a stranger to controversy and is renowned for speaking her mind. The star of Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, whoopi goldberg will make her hosting debut on The View the day after Labor Day.
